This is from a journal entry I wrote a couple of years ago. I love the way it is just what I needed to be reminded of today…
There are so many analogies in nature. I’m reminded of the Truth that the Sun never stops shining. It is always a bright fiery ball of energy. We say the sun sets and the sun rises but the truth is the earth is rotating around the sun. It only seems like it is rising and setting. As the earth moves around the sun each day, we may experience many different aspects of the sun. So much depends on other factors such as seasons and weather. On cloudy days it will feel cooler. On clear days we can feel the warmth of the sun even when the temperature is colder than on a cloudy day. And then there is of course wind or breeze that makes a difference as well. As I write this it is 64 degrees and partly cloudy. There is a breeze so to me it feels much cooler. Yesterday at this same time I was sitting out by the pool and it felt so warm I had to go inside even though the temperature was about the same. All because there were no clouds and no breeze. The sun didn’t change. The circumstances surrounding the sun changed.
This makes me ask myself, “How can I apply this to my daily life?” My answer is… I would like to be more like the sun. I would like to always be shining brightly no matter what is going on around me. I would like to provide the kind of warmth that the people around me need. The sun provides so much. It thaws the snow which provides water to our rivers that provide water for us to drink, water our lawns, and grow food. It is a source of vitamin D that is crucial to our health and well-being. The sun provides the daylight that is necessary for our plants to grow.

As I read back through these words, I am reminded that there is a fiery ball of light inside me that is always present. It, like the sun, never goes away. I can take comfort in “knowing” It is always inside me no matter what the circumstances are around me. I can also tune into It and, when I tune into It, I am divinely guided and inspired. It has been guiding me every day of my life even though I am not always aware. When I do not feel Its warmth it is because I have allowed a cloud to cover it. Those clouds are things like negative thoughts and fears. They cast shadows over the sun that is shining inside.
This is why it is so important that we take the time each day to “tune in” to the fire inside us. When we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of the day, we can take a moment to feel the warmth of the sun that is always shining and lighting our way. We can speak to the clouds and they will disappear for they have no power over us.
I believe each of us is a unique bright shining beam of light and that we are called to let our lights shine. Many years ago I planted some sunflowers along our back fence. I was a novice at planting much of anything and what I learned is that sunflowers grow toward the sun so my sunflowers faced the fence, not the yard the way I had hoped. As you can imagine, I planted them in a different spot the next year. This too is a good analogy. It reminds me that for me to shine brightly it helps when I keep myself planted facing the Sun.
I hope your day is filled with sunshine whether you can see it or not.
With much love,
Suzi
